It's been a while! A piece of work after finishing my course

So, hopefully I'll be doing more regular pieces now that the dust seems to be settling from trying to get a place on a PGCE course and it not working out in the end. Right now I'm trying to find a full time job, which leaves plenty of time for illustrations.

Here is my first illustration which was designed as a birthday present for my fiancee.

Being Human Competition idea changed and finalised:

The "Being Human" project piece has been changed and completed, it has had a major overhaul on the background and also had the complete inside of the head changed to make it a lot more interesting to the viewer, it now also shows minor thoughts as well as major thoughts in the form of the writing.

Being Human complete re-do

Changed the silhouette and changed a pre-set idea I had for a thought, it was going to be "Weather" but now it's changed to "Food" obviously still a work in progress:

Quick look into my newest project (Very much a work in progress!)

Doing a project for a contest called "Being Human" it's about designing an image that shows off an explanation of being human, my image shows the thoughts that go through humans minds on a day to day basis, with things such as Money, Time, Death, Love etc.

Page 2 for Wizard Muddle

Page 2 for the children's book illustration, possibly one of my favorite pages so far, just because the expression on the wizards face is shown off so well (in my opinion that is):

Page 1 for Wizard Muddle

So, this is the first page of 6 pages that I'll be creating for this short story, it won't end up covering the whole story but will focus on some of the key moments within it, the feeling here is that I will probably end up changing the text and text box before the final product is complete:

Book Cover for Wizard Muddle:

The font is very much a place holder as I try and find some other variation of it that will suit the cover more, however the cover has already gone through about 7 different changes where either the tree or the wizard has changed constantly, this is my final design (with the font changing soon)

Self Portrait!

So, for our upcoming gallery exhibition which will feature my whole University classes work we all decided we would each do a self portrait of ourselves alongside our work, below you can see mine:

A little explanation on this: the portrait was made to reflect my personality as an avid gamer by including some characters from some of my favorite indie game titles, these include: Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, Journey, Spelunky, N+, Don't Starve, Bit Trip Runner & Alien Hominid. The binary text in the background reads "Gamer" and is repeated over and over.

Wizard design changed again

Felt that the previous design of my wizard was far too stiff and didn't make much of an impression, so here's yet another re-design of him:

Wizard Muddle, Character change

Completely re-designed the main wizard character for my new book illustration, mainly on the basis that I just didn't like the previous design much myself, below is the newest design:

Artist Spotlight: Andrew Rowland

Here is an artist that I feel will be inspirational when it concerns my upcoming project, his style is very creative and really manages to capture the innocence required when it comes to children's book illustration, you can see some of his images below:

An update on the project:

So, since I put up the insight into my current project, the actual image has changed drastically thanks to some nice class and tutor feedback, here's the current idea (still a work in progress) for the Penguin competition project.

Very handy tutorial that helped me in the last project I finished:

The tutorial can be found here: Tutorial

It's a basic Photoshop tutorial on how to create a realistic water reflection. It's very easy to follow and the results are fantastic. It was a tutorial that really changed how an image in my last project ended up looking when it was finished.

A look into one of my favourite projects:

This is a look at a project I produced for second year of my University course, were I animated an audio clip from Jeremy Clarkson's desert island discs interview from the BBC website. It's an animation I'm very proud of which can be found here:

Insight into my newest project:

So, I've recently begun working on a new project, this time round I'm working on designing a book cover for the Penguin design contest, the book that the contest is based around is "What a Carve Up!" a very engaging book about a dystopian look at Britain, a family history and the story of a mans obsession. My initial idea can be seen below, though in its early stages, I feel describes the book well.

The TV will also have a bra hanging off the top of it and possibly some other form of underwear on it, which links in nicely to the book itself.
